Allow me to share my journey, lessons learned, along with the mental models and concepts I've developed that can help you make more informed decisions for personal growth, happiness, and productivity.
The son of immigrants from Trinidad West Indies, a good life was about going to school, working hard, starting a family, buying a home, having kids, and someday retiring. But I wanted more and didn't want to wait long for success and to get more things in life.
At 14, I got a gig placing advertising flyers on cars for cash (the original Twitter). In an hour, I could make twice what others made working at fast-food restaurants. I was hooked and have since found it hard to trade my time for money. My search for success started.
At the age of 18, I attend Marine Corps Boot Camp. Among many significant accomplishments, I fired my rifle at 500 yards qualifying as a Sharpshooter. The training required mastering the weapon, focus, practice, and many skills that carry over to hitting personal targets in business and life.
For my first job after College, I leveraged these sharpshooter skills to land a job without the experience or qualifications. But knew I wanted and could perform the job well. Using sharpshooter skills worked, but I could not continue to trade my time for money. This was my first and last job.
Soon after, I started a construction services firm. I grew this firm without formal education or experience in the field. I leveraged understanding the power of blueprints. When architects and engineers designed the projects, I didn't need in-depth knowledge. I just had to follow the blueprint.
I've always been searching for the secret to success. Only to realize that there is simply three things: 1. what we want (Return), 2. delivered by what we have (Resources), and 3. the action we take or don't take (Risk). If we clearly define these three R's we can be more strategic in hitting our targets.
As I grew the company, I had the opportunity to team and work with larger private billion-dollar companies. I felt I finally made it and would be invited to the 'secret society' where I can scale and grow my business along side these larger firms. But there was no secret treasure to be found.
Though I was working hard and clearly defined the three R's and had a plan (blueprint), something was still missing. I realized three things that fuel the three R's; how we think (Mindset), how we learn (Knowledge), and how much we focus and stay the course with our plan (Commitment).
After clearly defining my targets (Return), allocating my energy and time (Resources), and managing critical decisions (Risk), I scaled my business, hitting my personal and professional targets; by fueling the strategic plan with the right Mindset, continuously gaining Knowledge, and making a Commitment to stick to the plan. Don’t be fooled; simplicity is its power. These processes comprise the Sharpshooters Blueprint.
I continue to work with celebrities, athletes, entrepreneurs, corporations, and anyone wanting more success and happiness.
